Our First Trip-PirateLand Myrtle Beach SC

Pirateland was the very first place we took the RV and the entire family; I think we all learned some lessons that week!

One: book WAAAAAY far in advance. This was a last minute trip (we had the RV like 2 weeks at this point!) so we didn’t get the smartest site for our family. The sites at this park are all close together, which means lots of noise, so if you’re a light sleeper make sure to bring a white noise machine! We were also a good walk from the beach, if we had a site closer we would have spent much more time there! We were also in a pretty high traffic area so allowing the kids to ride their toys in the road was pretty much a no-go.

Two: Have a plan. When camping with toddlers it’s essential [for us] to continue their current schedule nap/bedtime schedule. I’ve heard people say they don’t let toddler’s schedules to dictate their lives…I like to pick my battles and fighting through naptime isn’t one I care to engage. Leisurely breakfasts weren’t as enjoyable as hoped because all the kids were restless-they knew there was fun to be had and wanted to get moving. For future trips we’ve started asking kids opinions and making sure everyone’s top priority get’s added to the agenda.

Three: I think we assumed (haha) that the kids would find camping relaxing, be able to unplug and entertain themselves. Making a teenager sit outside and try to appreciate the dirt pad he was on was NOT the best idea. This trip we spent a good amount of time reevaluating the things we brought with us and how we planned out or days.

Four: We don’t like dirt. Again, it was a last minute trip so spots were limited (and we’re thankful we got one to begin with!) but we were constantly sweeping the outdoor rug off and taking our shoes off before entering in the RV but dirt was still EVERYWHERE. We’ve since found we love a site that has a spacious concrete pad-perfect to keep the mess out, and for the little boys to zoom around on without going on a main road.

What we loved:

*Super close to a gorgeous beach!

*Large pools/lazy river/splash pad. Big variety of water for kids of all ages

*Variety of Food Trucks throughout the week

Not so much:

*Crowded. I know some families enjoy the closeness of camping, but hearing dogs bark in someone else’s RV [what seems like] all night was a bit much. I DID order this<a href="http://<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Headphones-Perytong-Ultra-Thin-Meditation/dp/B07SHBQY7Z?crid=2R68ABZQULW43&keywords=bluetooth+headband+for+sleeping&qid=1672170723&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011&rnid=1248877011&s=electronics&sprefix=bluetooth+headband%2Caps%2C110&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A3DJ4UVCP9P1AO&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE1VEYyRU5VVDlTSzYmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA0NDEzMDlGN09JWUhJM0Q3SjUmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDAwNzU3NzlRVjVOMEwwVERZSCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU%3D&linkCode=li2&tag=haulintheherd-20&linkId=b28a829c27f125da1fad159ecd719a90&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_il&quot; target="_blank"><img border="0" src="//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07SHBQY7Z&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=haulintheherd-20&language=en_US" ></a>"" headband after our trip for white noise and hopefully a more peaceful nights rest! Again, we learned how to pick a smarter parking spot, and to book MUCH earlier!
